Naqio is a halal food scanner. It is built to need as little of your data as possible. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app does and does not do.
On your device only (never sent to us):
Sent off your device:
openfoodfacts.org), a public community food database, to retrieve the product's ingredient list. That request includes the barcode and standard technical information your device sends with any internet request (such as your IP address and a Naqio app identifier in the header). It is anonymous — no account, name, or device ID we attach to you — and we do not log it. Open Food Facts is operated independently and has its own privacy practices; product data is provided under the Open Database License (ODbL); © Open Food Facts contributors. The first time a label photo would be sent for cloud reading, Naqio shows a consent notice. You can decline — Naqio then reads labels on your device only — and you can turn cloud reading on or off at any time in Settings. The halal verdict is always computed on your device from the recognized text.
Cloud text recognition is performed by Google — primarily Google Cloud Vision, with Google's Gemini model as a fallback for hard-to-read labels, accessed only through our own Cloudflare Worker. We send just the downscaled, metadata‑stripped image plus a shared app token — never your identity. Google processes the image to return text; we use a paid tier so the images are not used to train Google's models. Google may keep limited operational logs under its own terms. We do not retain your photo or the extracted text. To prevent abuse, our Worker briefly keeps only an anonymized, salted request counter (never your raw IP, image, or text).
Your strictness level and school (madhhab) are a sensitive category of information. Naqio stores them only on your device to compute your verdicts and never transmits them.
Naqio is a general‑audience informational app. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your settings, history, and cache live on your device — deleting the app removes them. Label photos sent for recognition are processed transiently and are not retained by us. We hold no account or profile to delete on our side.
Naqio is an informational aid, not a religious ruling authority. Always verify with a trusted authority where it matters to you.
We will update this policy if our data practices change, and we will revise the effective date above.
